    one small issue I ran in to after the fact. When attempting to make the model into a depth map using the compositor tab, for laser engraving, instead of the compositor nodes recognizing the models depth, it recognized the original png file. I end up with a greyscale of the png. I tried exporting the model as an stl, and reopening said stl, and compositing it, and still somehow the png effect stayed married to the newly generated model, how do you separate the model, from the original png file? even deleting the material, the model still stayed married to the png file which shouldn't be possible. Its funny I was originally overwhelmed with producing a model, and this video fixed that, but a totally new problem exists and it seems like no ones ran into this problem, or it's just very hard to explain.

      @@3d-illusions I completed the donut tutorial by Blender Guru, so I got the basics. But I thought this was a modeling playlist, but it's sculpting. And the videos in the playlist are backwards starting at the end - so I'm already confused. And animation playlist is worse - those videos are just haphazardly thrown into a playlist so there's no way to tap play all and have them play in order.

    • @3d-illusions
      @3d-illusions 5 днів тому

      @@Stuckathomemom Thanks for letting me know the playlist was ordered incorrectly. I've fixed it. Regarding the modelling section, it's just for modelling the robot with a combination of hard surface and sculpting (both are different forms of modelling). This section requires that you have the foundational knowledge covered in the intro to 3d playlist. So if there's anything you don't understand here, it will be explained in the approprately named video in the intro to 3d section. For example if you struggle with anything sculpting related, then there are 4 sculpting videos that will help in the intro to 3d section (29 to 32). The intro to 3d section also covers the basics of hard surface modelling (hard surface get's more advanced in this modelling section). Even though you've watched the Blender Guru Doughnut tutorial, I would still recommend to watch all of the intro to 3d section, because it cover lots more than the doughnut tutorials. This will ensure you have the necessary foundation to understand the rest of the course 👍👍

    Hello. I’m a big fan of this addon. I have a question though. Recently I had a project involving light groups. I couldn’t figure out if there was a way to get turbo render to denoise the light group passes as well as all the others when I set denoise to ultra. I chose to use the denoise node in the compositor instead. But am I losing quality and speed by manually denoising each light group pass and combining them into a completed image compared to how turbo tools is working to preserve detail behind the scenes? I didn’t know if it would be better to use view layers with only one light turned in for each layer. And use turbo render to denoise that way. But that felt complicated. Is there a way to handle light groups with turbo tools? Thanks.

    Just a warning for those using Quad Remesher. If you're going to use certain part as a reference from which modifiers will be copied, first apply remesher, and then modifiers to that object! Otherwise, once remesher is applied, it will also apply modifiers and therefore you won't be able to copy them on the other parts.

    • @3d-illusions
      @3d-illusions 13 днів тому

      The exoside quad remesher make a backup copy for you if you need to copy modifiers. If you're using the built in quad remesher and want to preserve the modifiers then probably easier to make a backup and hide it (as we do with the lips in the 'modelling a head' section.) Usually though, at the stage were remeshing is carried out, all modifiers would be applied to the relevant models. But yeah, it's always a good idea to store a backup, either in the blend file, or as a backup blend file. As long as you leave yourself the option to revert to various different stages of the project all shall be good 👍

    Regarding "Adaptive subdivision", it seems to me as so much superior method than standard subdivision in any possible way. Is there any reason why it shouldn't be used always? Does the fact that it's still "experimental" feature, means it's not stable enough and therefore reliable for serious production?

    • @3d-illusions
      @3d-illusions 16 днів тому

      You wouldn't want to/can't use it when there are other modifiers after it in the stack, otherwise the render time results would potentially differ wildly from the viewport render. You also couldn't use it when applying modifiers, so it needs to be optional. It's perfectly stable, I have no idea why it's marked as experimental. I it's been experimental for 9 years, I think someone has just forgotten.

    Just to clarify why lowering the samples from 0.1 to 0.05 gave better results even though the full 750 samples were used at 0.1. This is because only some of the noisiest pixels used the full 750 samples because they hadn't reached the noise threshold, but other pixels (such as where we were losing detail on the top of the monster's head) had stopped sampling after reaching the insufficient noise threshold of 0.1. Lowering the noise threshold just meant that more of the pixels got the full 750 samples, resulting in less loss of detail.

    • @3d-illusions
      @3d-illusions 17 днів тому

      Yes, particles are the way to go. You can probably automate it using the dynamic paint in the particles vertex groups density section. Or perhaps better shooting the particles directly from the foot using the floor as a brush and the feet as a canvas. Or use geometry nodes to write to the vertex group on close proximity.

      Thanks. Throughout the course, if there are any differences in Blender 4, I swap to Blender 4 to demonstrate. I actually took the course myself using Blender 4 before releasing it so I could record any necessary new content to ensure it would be plain sailing for everyone 👍

    Wow, Michael. This is a huge contribution to the Blender world. Thanks for your generosity! I look forward to learning the bits of Blender I always felt intimidated by and finally putting good use to the Turbo Render add-on which I bought last year. Cheers!

      Thanks Stephane. 3 years! You must be one of the earliest customers, great to hear the addon is useful enough for you to still be using it after all this time 👍

    Sounds awesome! Actually I have already bought your paid course on Udemy, but is this free version on UA-cam exactly the same as the Udemy version? Or you will add some more contents on UA-cam?

    • @3d-illusions
      @3d-illusions 25 днів тому

      Cheers. The course will be identical except for the ads and the short logo intro at the start of each video. Also, people who watch on Udemy have access to the Q and A/support, and the optional scene files are included without a 3d-illusions.co.uk membership. I just wanted to make it accessible to everyone 👍

      Great! Thank you for your confirmation. I reckon it's a brilliant idea to make such valuable resources available to everyone free of charge. Thank you again!

      @@ryut Thanks. My ability to pay the bills doing something I enjoy, wouldn't have been possible without the free help I received in the early days. Fingers crossed this will have a similar impact on someone's future 👍

    Thats quite impressive results I have rtx 4090 and have ur addon as well However i wanna know somethings 1- Why ur denoiser works better than optix and odin, what kind of denoiser is that? 2- blender 4.2 allow for gpu composite, is that what you was waiting in 4.3 and it came early than you expected? 3- after using overlay timings in compositor it seems that gpu takes more time than cpu for the denoiser node but gpu faster for some other nodes like glare, is gpu work fully or not in compositor? I would appreciate your thoughts about this

      1. It's a dynamically created multipass denoising system capable of generating 100's of different configurations for the best quality at much lower samples than the denoisers in the render settings can achieve. 2. GPU denoising is not yet available to the compositor. Should be right around the corner, giving Turbo an even bigger advantage. 3. You'd need to speak to the Blender developers on that one 👍

    In the Blender compositor you actually CAN denoise individual passes

    • @3d-illusions
      @3d-illusions 28 днів тому

      Yes, I was referring to the denoising options in the render settings. This addon uses the compositor to dynamically build bespoke denoising networks based on individual scenes. The addon uses years of testing, to generate potentially 100's of different denoising setups for the fastest possible render time, not to mention it saves a huge amount of time finding good sample settings and trying to find the best denoising setup manually, and of course comes with a temporal stabiliser as well as lots of tools to for the compositor, such as caching 👍
